What “Ne” means
Ne is the English cotton count: the number of 840-yard hanks of yarn that weigh one pound. The higher the number, the finer the yarn.
One pound of Ne 20 runs to 16,800 yards. The same pound of Ne 36 stretches to 30,240 yards. The “/1” means a single-ply yarn.
Carded, ring-spun
Carded means the cotton is cleaned and aligned on carding machines and goes straight to drawing, without a separate combing step. That keeps the cost down while giving a strong, full-handed yarn.
Ring-spun yarn is twisted on ring frames, which gives it more strength and a softer feel than open-end yarn of the same count.
